A message for referred families

If you landed here, your provider likely sees signs that your child’s feeding needs a closer look.

That does not mean you have done anything wrong. It means your provider wants to make sure the real reason behind your child’s eating struggles is not being missed.

At Foodology Feeding Therapy, we help families understand why feeding feels hard, what may be contributing to it, and what the right next step looks like.

Your provider may be concerned about things like:

  • Very limited food variety
  • Gagging, chewing, or swallowing difficulty
  • Fear, avoidance, or distress around food
  • Poor weight gain, nutrition concerns, or constipation
  • Meals that feel exhausting, emotional, or stuck

This is more than picky eating when feeding struggles begin affecting daily life.

Many children who are referred to us are dealing with an overlap of oral-motor, sensory, nutritional, gut, medical, and behavioral factors. That is why quick tips alone often do not work.

Your child may look “stubborn”

when the real issue is discomfort, fear, weak oral skills, or a body that does not feel safe eating.

You may have already tried everything

from reward charts to hiding food to waiting it out, but the missing piece is understanding the root cause.

The good news

is that once we understand what is driving the struggle, families finally get a clearer path forward.

Here’s how we help

We use a structured process so families are not left guessing what to do next.

1

Comprehensive evaluation

We look at oral-motor skills, sensory processing, mealtime patterns, medical history, nutrition, and the deeper factors that may be affecting feeding. When appropriate, this can also include food sensitivity testing and a stool gut sample to assess microbiome health, permeability, and underlying contributors.

2

Targeted implementation

Families move directly into a guided plan that includes 8 implementation sessions. That means you are never left with an evaluation and no idea what to do next. We help you turn findings into practical steps you can use at home.

3

Ongoing support when needed

For more complex cases, families can continue with twice-monthly 45-minute sessions. If direct oral-motor work with your child is needed, we can include your child on calls too.

Take the Feeding Stage Quiz

This quiz helps identify whether your child is showing signs of a Fearful, Stuck, or Curious feeding pattern. Once you know the stage, the right next step becomes much clearer.

What your results mean

At Foodology Feeding Therapy, we categorize feeding challenges into three stages: Fearful, Stuck, and Curious. Fearful and Stuck children often need the same level of intervention, but the timeline for change may vary.

If your child is Fearful or Stuck

A deeper clinical roadmap is usually the right next step

These results often suggest that feeding challenges are deeper than typical picky eating and may involve overlapping factors such as oral-motor skill gaps, sensory sensitivities, nutrition concerns, or learned food avoidance.

Families in these stages usually do best with a structured clinical process rather than isolated tips.

  • Comprehensive feeding evaluation
  • Root-cause assessment across oral motor, sensory, gut, and nutrition
  • Food sensitivity testing and stool gut sample when clinically appropriate
  • 8 guided implementation sessions so parents are not left guessing

Stuck children may move more quickly once the right plan is in place. Fearful children often need longer support as safety around food is built over time.

If your child is Curious

The Mealtime Makeover Toolkit may be enough support

Children in the Curious stage are often more open to learning but still need structure, consistency, and the right kind of support to keep moving forward.

In these cases, many families benefit from education and practical tools they can implement at home rather than a deeper clinical roadmap.

  • Positive food exposure routines
  • Less pressure and fewer power struggles
  • More confidence introducing new foods
  • A clearer plan for building variety at home

You do not need to figure this out alone.

If your provider sent you here, they likely believe your child’s feeding deserves a closer, more thoughtful look. That is exactly what we do.

Our goal is to help you stop wondering whether this is “just a phase” and start understanding what is actually going on.
